Home-based and independent learners are growing worldwide. However in the Philippines the system, procedures and directions for these types of learners are still developing and unstable in the K to 12 levels. Families and individuals literally go out on a limb whenever they want to learn independently. Learners end up staying "out-of-school" because formal education is no longer effective to them nor does it fit their specialized learning preferences.
What is ALS?
Alternative Learning System is a parallel learning system in the Philippines that provides a practical option to the existing formal instruction. When one does not have or cannot access formal education in schools, ALS is an alternate solution. ALS includes both the non-formal and informal sources of knowledge and skills.
The founders of MyHill saw the benefit of the ALS curriculum to home-based and independent learners due to its inclusive approach.
